Hometown Hero

OCTOBER 11-13, 2024 | Forbes Field | Topeka, KS

Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond for the support of youth and the betterment of our community? Do you know someone who has went out of their way toinfluence others in a positive and lasting way? We’re looking for these amazing individuals to  recognize during this year’s Thunder Over the Heartland Air Show – and we need your help!

We are proud to announce our Hometown Hero program, which recognizes and celebrates the  efforts of exemplary people. Selected heroes and their families will be treated to a VIP experience of the show and will be recognized during the show’s opening ceremonies each day. This special opportunity allows us to celebrate the culture of excellence and selfless dedication found in those who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of others.

Hometown Heroes aren’t always the people at the top of an organization. Often they are theunsung heroes who make the difference through dedication and hard work. We’re looking for individuals who stand out because of their strong impact and commitment to the community.

Who can be a Hometown Hero?

Some great examples include:

  • A Teacher of the Year at the community or state level

  • Teachers or administrators recognized for going above and beyond
  • Police officers, firefighters, or first responders who have received community recognitionfor their service or impact on young people
  • Youth sport coaches or extracurricular activity leaders who are locally recognized for their impact
  • Volunteers or community leaders who positively impact young children, disadvantaged youth, or youth with disabilities through programs such as Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Explorers, and more.

*Elected and appointed officials, unit honorary commanders, air show sponsors, and political figures are not eligible as part of this program.
